The Difference Between Hugs and Kisses

I've been contemplating a certain thing for awhile now, going back and forth. When I was younger, I saw it and knew without a doubt that it was sin. But as I grew older, and the thing didn't bother me as much, I started to see it everywhere and... that made me wonder. Where in the Bible does it say this is wrong? So, after another talk with my parents about the subject, I thought I would address it.

Is kissing before marriage a sin?

Christians disagree on this subject. At first, I thought it was a big no-no. Getting older, I saw it everywhere! From a Disney show to the newest hit love song, I heard a mention of kiss or saw a kiss. Of course, even the princesses shows for little kids involve kissing. There are some Christian books and movies that I read and watch that have kissing in it. Clearly, it's not something I could avoid. As I saw it more and more, I began to think about it.

I was reminded of why it is a sin when I talked to my parents this Sunday. I had just finished reading Divergent (more on that later) and wanted to talk to them about what I read. If you read my review, you will know that they do kiss. Once again, Dad explained to me like this:

Your mouth is very important part of your body. Not only do you eat and talk with it, but you breath! Without it, you couldn't live. Because it is so important, we have to be careful about how we use it.

When you think about it, what is kissing? It a sign of affection to someone you love in that special way. More than that, it's a gesture of affection. It is designed to show adoration to your lover. Only your husband truly deserves that adoration, not your boyfriend. The secular world makes kissing out to be like a hug, something you can do to anybody, even if it's just for fun.

Like always, they don't understand the value of it. You might argue and say, "Well, hugging is a act of affection! Why don't you ban that?" Well, hugging is different. You don't just hug your boyfriend or your husband. You can hug anyone from your grandma to your best friend. But you don't kiss your best friend on the lips, do you? Kissing is an act of affection for the opposite gender. Ultimately, it's for someone you love in that way.

Now I don't hate a book or a movie for having a kiss in it. I'll tolerate it if it's not like making out. At the same time, I hope to have my first kiss on my wedding day. I believe kissing is something you should do for your husband. Kissing is also a emotional type of affection. For me, my first kiss on my wedding day will feel better than my fifth kiss on my wedding day because done it with someone else before.

Why shouldn't you kiss your boyfriend? Because dating has no commitment, you don't know if the guy you're dating will be husband. While others disagree, I truly believe that kissing is special enough to save for your husband.

"Love is patient." 1st Corinthians 13.

  2. I have been thinking a lot on this subject for a bit now. And I agree with almost everything. :)

I totally agree that kissing should not be taken lightly. But I would say that if you are engaged, seriously, then kissing would be okay. But if anyone who wants to hold out till their wedding day, I will not argue. I would just not like to have everyone staring at me when I have my first kiss. You know what I mean?

    1. Yeah, I get that. I think kissing with you get engaged is fine and yeah, it would be awkward.
