'Heart Attack' is about falling in love. Demi has been through a lot over the past few years, and unsurprisingly, after she got out of rehab she made it clear that she wasn't dating anyone. Instead, she admitted that music was her first priority in life. "I'm dating anyone," she said in a interview almost two years ago. "I'm dating music."
But now, Demi has become stronger. Over the years, she has always been a little insecure about love, but 'Heart Attack', she wants to fall in love, but is very scared. "The song is about falling in love and taking that risk, but.... she's, I'm, terrified," she says in a MTV interview. "I think everyone comes to a point where they feel very vulnerable when falling in love and that's what I'm talking about," Lovato says about her new single.
Well, to start off, Demi has always been a little unsure of herself when it comes to love. In fact, unlike most artists, most of her songs don't talk about the benefits about love. However, in her most recent album, Unbroken, there are many sweet love songs."Love makes me crazy, restless, dumb, and paranoid," she admits in 'You're My Only Shorty.' Mixed in them, though, are a few raw, sad, yet triumphant, songs. Also, Demi opens up to why she isn't like the other girls when it comes to love. 'For the Love of a Daughter', a song that speaks out about her abusive father who betrayed her, is a sad song. "How could you throw me right out of your world?" she asks, outraged. "So young when the pain had begun/Now forever afraid of being loved."
Some of that influence definitely shows up in 'Heart Attack.'
"Putting my defenses on/'Cuz I don't wanna fall in love," Demi cries at the very beginning. "If I ever did that/I'd think I'd have a heart attack."
The first verse talks about Demi being a independent girl. "Never put my love out on the line/Never said yes to right guy/Never had trouble getting what I want."
Speaking of how she treats guys, Demi talks about how she acts towards her guys. "When I don't care/I can play 'em like a Ken doll/Won't wash my hair/And make them bounce like a basketball."
But with this particular guy, Demi can't seem to act like she normally does. "But when it comes to you I'm never good enough/But you/Make me wanna act like a girl/Paint my nails and wear perfume... never break a sweat for the other guys/When you come around I get paralyzed."
But despite how she feels about this dude, she's just can't fall in love with him. "You make me glow/But I cover up/Won't let it show/Putting my defense up/'Cuz I don't wanna fall in love/If I ever did that, I'd think I'd have a heart attack... I'm burning/I'd rather be numb."
Well, to start off, Demi has been through a lot. A few years, she went to rehab and found out she had eating disorders bipolar depression. I'm sure that had something to do with it. Adding to everything, she was also bullied. Now, she is touring and inspiring many girls to speak up about their issues and get help. In the Demi Lovato: Stay Strong Documentary, one of Demi's fans says, "I feel like, if Demi can do it, I can do it too."
Since she has had cutting issues, she now has tattooed 'Stay Strong' on her wrists because that was what her fans told her while she was in rehab.
Back to now. Actually, I've been waiting for this song ever since I heard that she working on her album. As usual, Demi did not disappoint. The message that she is trying to convey here is very true.'Here We Go Again' was a lot different. Thankfully, Demi has matured since her Camp Rock days, and I know she has discovered that love isn't all fairy tales.
When it comes to taking risks in love, you have to be very careful. Even if it if it totally looks like it's worth it, when it comes to playing the dating game, or anything involving love, usually you can't be sure. The one love you can be 100% sure of is God's. If you decide to go by His standards when you love, you will find that He will take care of you and he will lead to the right conclusion in your love life.
Love is pretty confusing, different, and deceitful. It makes us crazy. It makes us stupid. It can change us for the better... or the worse. The assuring conclusion we can come to is that God's love never fails. He has plan for you. Trust in Him. He will never disappoint or hurt you.
Let's put it this way: Jesus' love will never give you a heart attack.
